Jesus, Take My To Do List.

Mary and Martha are two of my favorite women in the bible. (Are we allowed to have favorites?) Like you, I am sure you relate to Mary’s love for time spent in God’s presence and her vulnerability to weep at His feet during hard times. While you also carry the intentionality of Martha at times, being worried about many things. After all, everything has a time and a place! Throughout scripture, we are brought to the examples of these two women and even their brother Lazarus. They are known by Jesus as His beloved friends.

After a time of prayer this morning, I sipped on my lukewarm coffee and began the journey with the Holy Spirit to the example of Mary and Martha in Luke 10.

While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.  She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.” The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.” -Luke 10:38-42 CSB

Once again, I was faced with a revealed truth of the heart of both Mary, Martha, and my own. We weren’t so different after all. There are many times that I come into the Lord’s presence without being fully present. There are dishes to do, a dog barking, the cat’s litter box needs to be changed, and when is that package coming in? Didn’t I make plans today? Where is my phone? Planner? Very quickly our heart filled with desire to meet with the one who loves us most is crowded with our to do list. Martha desired to please Jesus with a clean home and only the best food. This was the least she could do! After all, she welcomed Him in her home. However, Jesus was only after one thing. He was not after what was on the outside, but the posture of her heart.

We desire to be like Mary and forget about the to do list that never ends. So often, we end up thinking like Martha-more concerned on the less important. To Jesus, He simply loved that she invited her in. He was less concerned about the cobwebs in the corner and the never-ending crowd that chased Him. He was fully attentive to both Martha and Mary and He desired them to be the same. The truth is my friend, Jesus desires an attentive heart more than a spotless home and a checked off to do list. It is only through time spent in His presence that we can be fully satisfied.

Jesus pointed out that Martha was worried about many things. Those ‘many things’ He was not concerned about in comparison to the time that He desired to spend with Her. My friend, what area of your life is He calling you out from busyness to spend time with Him? Whatever area this is, do not feel guilty for laying it down. Time is one of the most beautiful gifts that God has given us to steward. While our heavenly Father gives us His full attention, we must be intentional about being present in His presence. The ‘many things’ of our life are not important in comparison to the time spent with Him and that is through His eyes. He desires to spend time with you. He desires you to learn more and more about His heart and even your own in the process.

Invite the Holy Spirit to lead your path, even if that means crossing off things of your to do list. I know for people like me who schedule by the hour, this can be very difficult. What I have come to find and experience is that when I put Him first, the rest is order. From the overflow of His presence, we are not given more time. What we are given is a better way to steward of the time that has been gifted.

A Call To The Secret Place

This will probably be the shortest blog post I will ever write, but they are word’s straight from the Father’s heart.

I come to you to say, go to the secret place. Sit at the Lord’s feet, this is the only thing that will not be taken away. Cut away the distractions and sit at his feet. It is there you will find wisdom, peace, and strength. There is much to be distracted by, but you will only know the next step by sitting at his feet.

Go to the secret place, sit at his feet, press into HIM. This is what is truly important.

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6 NLT

For you are my hiding place;
you protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of victory. -Psalm 32:7 NLT

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” -Luke 10:42 NLT

God, I Put You First (Even Though There Is 15 Years of Laundry To Do & My Puppy Just Pooped On The Floor)

There is something that has been laying on my heart rather heavy lately and that is: Our Priorities.

We live in a world that will do anything it can to distract you from your relationship with God and him being rightfully placed at the throne of your heart. Anything we put before him is what we call an idol. As we read throughout scripture, worshiping idols are REALLY bad. We see this in both the Old Testament all the way to Revelation. But often I think because we aren’t worshiping a golden calf that we think we don’t have an idolatry problem.

We are all worshiping something…What are you worshiping?

It is ultimately up to you whether God has the throne of your heart. You can easily put things or people above God. Your spouse, children, addiction to sex, drugs, alcohol, social media, and even food can be a problem. We all have been there or are dealing with this right now. What I have come to find is that when we put our crazy schedule above church on Sunday morning or quiet time with God, we look to fill that void in other things or people, creating even more of an idolatry problem.

Not only that, but when our relationship with God isn’t our number one priority, all the priorities below are completely out of order too!

When I put my relationship with God in its rightful place, above my husband, our marriage flourishes. When I MAKE TIME to spend time with God, my mind is renewed. When I MAKE TIME to renew my mind my heart is lined up with God’s and I reflect the character of Christ. When I trust God with our finances, he provides. When I actively look for fellowship with other women, I am encouraged and filled. This all has to do with us putting forth the effort…

Our relationship with God takes time and dedication. It takes us putting down what we want and our selfish nature and listening to Holy Spirit and what God wants. I have never regretted a time I have been obedient to God. It is actively being aware of the world and it’s distractions. The Spiritual War we are in is the real deal ya’ll! Walking with God takes a lot of opening your heart and seeing that there is some work to be done and allowing God to change you from the inside out. Starting with your heart and mind.

I am not perfect. I will continue to grow until Jesus comes back or I go to my eternal home. I have to ask Holy Spirit to search my thoughts and my heart. I don’t want anything or anyone to be #1 in my life or in my heart besides him. Not even my husband.

This is a time to reflect…

Are you truly putting God first in everything you do or has the world distracted you?

I can say I have been distracted before. I have been that girl to go to food when I am stressed and have a bad day instead of going to God. I was that girl that called someone for advice before casting my cares to God through prayer. You are not alone. I can also say that God has forgiven me and through his word and fellowship with other believers I have the tools to overcome.

If you have something or someone before God, now is the time to ask God for his forgiveness and ask him for the help and Holy Spirit for his guidance. You don’t want anything on the Throne of Your Heart besides God. That just causes a whole lot of unnecessary problems. God being at the Throne of Our Heart is where he belongs. We were made to worship him.

Walking With God Is Intentional

What do you go to for comfort when you’ve had a bad day? Food, your warm fuzzy blanket, a beer, a shopping spree at hobby lobby, your friends, the gym, even your spouse?

When something happens, who is the first person you want to talk to? Do you talk to Abba or do you call your spouse or best friend?

When you wake up in the morning, what is the very first thing you do? Do you talk to Abba and ask what is on his agenda? Do you spend time with him and put on your armor for the day?

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].”

‭‭MATTHEW‬ ‭6:24‬ ‭AM

What is taking away from your time with God? Are you putting anything before him?

Ask Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.

I often hear how “busy” we are and how we “don’t have time” for God. Walking with Christ is intentional and choosing him and his way should be apart of our life every single day. I don’t care if you ask him what kind of bread you should get, he is just happy to spend time with you.

When I first started walking with God… he wasn’t first in my life. My whole life and everything in it was completely out of wack. I chose many things, and people, that I thought would complete me. Things I thought would help fill the void that I constantly felt. But really, when we focus on him and die to ourself, is really when we start living.

“Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you are trying to follow someone you don’t know, I can understand that it can be scary…

But, the only way to get to know him, just like anyone else, is by spending time with him. Once you focus on Abba, things begin to fall into place. Things you didn’t have strength to do, he gives you the strength for. He shows you what pure love is and how to love those who need it the most. He shows you the perfect plan for your life. God gives you purpose. If we could just stop, and really focus on what’s important, God, life here on earth would be so much better.

If I can just encourage you to dig a little deeper, or if you don’t know God at all to talk to him like he’s your best friend, I assure you that you won’t be disappointed.

“In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Jeremiah‬ ‭29:12-13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Why Is God Taking So Long!?

As I was preparing myself to be married and move to Louisiana, I knew God had a purpose for Brad & I at the church he had been attending. We had gotten conformation that this is the place Abba wanted us to be at. I had served in two ministries at The River while I resided in Michigan, The Awake Café (coffee bar) and The Nursery. I was unsure when I left what exactly what my plans were when I arrived here in Louisiana. I just knew that I wanted to follow God’s will, no matter what it entailed.

Brad and I continued to pray persistently

Even when it felt like we were never going to get an answer, we knew even if we couldn’t see that things were being set up for us, they were, and that God would reveal to us his perfect plan in his perfect timing. We often thought, “Should we be doing something?”. We continued to ask Abba to prepare us for what he had already spoken over our life. We often sought out advice from elders to seek out wisdom. Waiting is hard at times, but we trusted Abba and his plan for our life.

I went through a lot of change and growth before arriving here. I endured many trials, including looking at surgery just two days before our wedding (NOT TODAY SATAN). I will write about that in a later post. What kept me going were Abba’s promises. Declaring them over myself and our life daily! We know as Children of God, we have authority! When we speak The Word of God, it moves mountains and shifts our focus on what is truly important, Abba!

God’s plan has been slowly revealing itself the longer we are here and let me tell you, it’s a lot bigger than I thought! I know that I can makes as many plans as I want, but his plan and purpose always prevails. “We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but GOD ’s purpose prevails.-Proverbs‬ ‭19:21‬ ‭MSG‬‬

If you are in a season of waiting I encourage you to… “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the Lord. Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.-1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:8-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Seek guidance and accept correction, this makes you wise! “Take good counsel and accept correction— that’s the way to live wisely and well.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19:20‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Know that God has a time for everything!

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:1, 11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Read his word.

spend time with Abba, he loves you.

& DECLARE his word over your life.
