Why Are You Attacking Me? -A Different Perspective On Spiritual Warfare

When I was reading The Hannah Anointing, there was something that the author said that stood out to me so profound that I sat my book down, adjusted myself in my chair, and began to pray. (You can see the review here: https://letlovebemymotive.com/2020/01/02/the-hannah-anointing-michelle-mcclain-walters-book-review/ ) She mentioned that sometimes she steps back and observes the areas that the devil is attacking her in. Now I have heard of taking every thought captive and making them obedient to Christ. However, I have never thought about observing the devils behaviors the way that he does ours.

As you may have noticed, there was a long period of time (it felt like forever) where I was not writing as much. I did a devotional here and there and posted some scripture, but there were not many posts or book reviews. I am sorry for this. During those times the Lord is refining me or teaching me something new. I do not want to fail to mention how much I appreciate you being here with me on this adventure called life!

On the Lord’s commands I have quit my job and am doing the only things he has commanded me to do, pray and to write. Now, even before I left my job the devil was on the prowl and trying to plant seeds of worry and doubt. He began with “Was I really hearing from God to quit my job?”. I began to pray and ask God to show me again what his will was. Thank you Abba for your patience! God showed me, yet again, it was his will for me to quit.

Then as I became confident and filled with faith, the devil started to prowl once again. “Are you sure you are going to be able to pay your bills? You know you made so much money. How can you even be sure God is going to provide? You can’t see it”. Well Lucifer, you see God’s word says that he would open the flood gates of heaven and pour out a blessing there is not room enough to receive. You see he gave me this word and the only thing he said was wildflower and when I looked up where that was in God’s word he reminded me yet again that he is my provider and I have nothing to worry about.

Then the Lord had me shift my focus from worry back unto him where I found peace. God then reminded me that our words have power! He told me to declare what I was believing him for. Possiblities are endless with him! So as I was going to the mail box that morning, I was reminded of a time where my friend was solely relying on God’s provision and she asked him for a check in the mail and he sent her just that. As I was walking out I started to declare the Lord’s provision for my family. Mind you, the devil has been trying to plant seeds of doubt about God’s provision THE ENTIRE TIME. I walk out to the mail box and see the Lord’s provision waiting in our mail box. GLORY BE TO GOD!

As I said above, the Lord had me quit my job and only gave me two directions, to pray and to write. So, as he has asked me to do, I have done just that. As I began to write yesterday, I went over my article at least 5 times to make sure everything was correct. This already is abnormal behavior for me. Then as I was reading it for the last time, I was tempted to not even send it in to the magazine. Then the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of what the author of Hannah’s Anointing said.

Why is the devil attacking me right now?

Despite the doubt and fear I was feeling I sent it into the editor. Usually the emails are brief, but what I found in my inbox was quite the surprise. The editor wrote back thanking me, saying that she loved what I wrote and she needed what was written.

So was THIS why he was attacking me?

Over the past couple days I have been taught to step back and look at the pattern of the enemy. His tricks and deceptive ways are not new. He uses the same evil tactics over and over. He is trying to discourage us and trap us in fear to stop us from doing what God has called us to do. He is the BEST liar. He can have you thinking the worst! But, what we need to do is to step back and ask Holy Spirit for help in these moments. Every single time that I have asked for help, he has met me there in my weakness with his strength. In the moments I have been attacked the most, there was a blessing on the other side or the enemy was trying to stop me from doing EXACTLY what God had intended me to do.

God is faithful, gentle, and patient. He is willing to help us when we ask. I want to encourage you to interrogate why the enemy is trying to attack you. What does God have for you in this area of your life?

Planted For A Purpose

When you are following the will of God and driving towards the divine purpose God has called over you life, there are several tactics that the enemy will use to derail you from that path. The enemy does not want you to follow God’s plan for your life. He wants you as far away from God’s perfect plan as possible. From my experience, the biggest tools he as he has used is discouragement, shame, and fear. He has used people to tell me I am “not good enough”, “making the wrong decision”, and “it will never happen”. He has planted lies in my mind that I am too young, not equipped, and that the decisions I am making are irrational and wrong. Throwing shame and fear like sour patch kids, when really it is the poison that distracts and stalls us from moving forward. God does not ask for your resume or references, he asks for your yes. He asks for an open and teachable heart that willing to be obedient.

Instead of paying attention to what people have to say and the lies the enemy likes to try to plant, why don’t we focus on the ultimate truth? God’s Word. We need to feed our minds and hearts with the truth. Meditate on what God’s says and who he is, who we are through him. Yielding to the Spirit through God’s word is what allows us to not only know God and be in his presence, but allows him to work on our heart in the process. As he works on our hearts we are put in the direct line of the will of God. Listening to what he has to say, absorbing his love, faithfulness, grace, and mercy like a sponge, and becoming more like him.

When you are following God’s perfect plan for your life, of course the enemy wants to stop you. God is using you as a vessel to bring people to him. You are bringing people pure love, peace, hope, and faith. He is using you to set people free from what once tied them down. Later, he will use them to bring them the same love, peace, hope, and faith. His love never stops and it never runs dry.

The next time the enemy tries to discourage you from God’s beautiful plan for your life, tell him who your Papa is and who you are through him. The authority and inheritance you have through Jesus is like no other. Pay more attention to what God says verses what the world says. People may not understand, there may even be things you do not understand. However, the world doesn’t need to understand. You don’t need to see, walk by faith.

“They will fight you, but they will fail.

For I am with you, and I will take care of you.

I, the Lord, have spoken!””-Jeremiah 1:19 NLT

“You saw me before I was born.

Every day of my life was recorded in your book.

Every moment was laid out

before a single day had passed.

How precious are your thoughts about me,O God.

They cannot be numbered!

I can’t even count them;

they outnumber the grains of sand!

And when I wake up,

you are still with me!”-Psalm 139:16-18 NLT

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”-Ephesians 6:11-12 NLT

“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

Have you ever been in a spot in your life when you have just said, “Lord, I don’t know what to do, please help me!”?

This was me after service today, as I came to the end of myself and stopped trying to do things on my own. I asked Holy Spirit to guide me. I feel as though, often our prayers are almost scripted. They almost become routine, when we should be transparent with Abba 24/7. He knows what we are going to say before we say it, he knows what we need before we ask, and knows us better than we know ourselves. He created us!

“Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” -Psalm 100:3

Instead of focusing on the mountain before us, we should be focused on God and his strength, not trying to do things on our own. We will become weary relying on our flesh to fight the battle. When we really should be giving these burdens to God because he cares.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” -1 Peter 5:7

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30

Instead of focusing on the mountain before us, we should be declaring biblical truth and shouting who we are in Christ at anything we know isn’t from our Father. satan and his little minons tremble at the name of Jesus.
“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” -Luke 10:17

We got back home and were talking about the set of circumstances that we have been faced with and randomly worship music began to play out of nowhere. (Thanks Abba! Perfect timing as always!) Instead of looking at the mountain we should be praising him through the storm. Our circumstances may change, but there is one thing that remains the same, God!

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”-Hebrews 13:8

This brings me to the rest of Psalm 100…

“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” -Psalm 100

Instead of complaining about what is before us, we should be acknowledging the circumstances he has brought us out of before. We should be praising him with an attitude of thanksgiving. The enemy gets pleasure out of us looking at the mountain and spewing death. Don’t let him get the glory in your life instead of God! We know because we love God, and want his will, not our own, that everything will turn out for the good through every single circumstance. (Romans 8:28)

It’s easier said than done! I know, because I’m preaching to myself. Anything I write in my posts are things that I have dealt with or are currently dealing with. You’re never alone!

  • Are you looking at your circumstances or are you looking at God?
  • Are you declaring biblical truth?
  • Do you know the authority you have inside of you? “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”-Luke 10:19-20
  • Are you praising God through the storm?
  • Are you using the past blessings to help you get through?

This is just some of the things Holy Spirit has laid on my heart today. The enemy likes us to look at our circumstances instead of God because he knows what happens to him in the end. The battle is already won!

What You Are Really Searching For…

Before you start reading this…hear me out…read it all the way through.

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.”

‭‭John‬ ‭10:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:9-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:3-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:38‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

These are just a few of many verses that shows Abba’s love for us. Before I started my walk with God, I was looking for love in all the wrong places…I mean all of them. I would try to fill this void in my heart with whatever I could get my hands on…boyfriends, drinking and drugs, food, a promotion at work, money, friends, popularity, and yes, even social media. No matter what I did, I was never satisfied. I knew in my heart there was something more. I didn’t understand. Now, most of the things I listed above are what the world thinks as “bad”. If you try to fill the void of God’s love with anything, including your spouse, bodybuilding, healthy eating, a productive hobby, etc….it becomes a bad things. Some things that are really good for us can become an idol, something that we put before God which in turn, can turn out really bad. My point of this post is that really what our world is looking for is love…and God is love. (1 John 4:8) We are all searching for a deep intimate relationship with Abba.

What I love about God is that he believes that bringing one of us home to the Kingdom of God, is of great importance. He is a good father that doesn’t want anyone to perish. He looks at us as his masterpieces. He looks at us with love and tells us we are worthy of love. We are made to be loved. I heard that “we are made to be loved.” & I was like ugh….Abba, my heart.

When my relationship with God first started really developing, I was blown away with how many lies the thief, aka satan, aka, the enemy, had snuck into my life. Everything I believed about God was untrue. I had to let go of who I thought he was & who I thought I was. I began to read and study the word daily, praying more than I ever before, and started having fellowship with other people following Jesus, and I started to understand my identity.

I am a Child of God.

Before really pursuing my relationship I was searching and searching, trying to fill the void, and really I just needed God. I needed his true, pure, reckless love. I can speak about his love for me all day long. I know that he loves you too. But, getting to know his love is something you have to do. By this I mean, his love is individualized. He loves you and every “flaw” you think you have. His love never changes no matter the mistake you may make or what your past looks like. God loves you no matter where you are at in this very moment. He is willing to leave the 99 to come get the one. Are you the one?

His love doesn’t just stop at me, it doesn’t just stop at you…he uses all the things we’ve been through for the good. He uses it to help others that may be struggling. To me, that is so beautiful. How his love just travels and travels through people and for all generations to come.

Like I said, I can speak about God’s love for you all day long, but it’s for you to decide to get to know him on that intimate level.

I know we will never reach the depth of his love here on earth…and I think that’s one of the things that really sets a fire inside of my soul. I can just keep reaching out to him and he keeps pouring his love back upon me. We can never outgive God. His love is overwhelming to the point of tears of joy. His love is reckless and is unstoppable. His love is constant. His love is everything I’ve ever needed and more. Thank-you Abba for who you are.
