Discernment, Jane Hamon (Book Review)

Book Information:

Title: Discernment, The Essential Guide To Hearing The Voice of God

Author: Jane Hamon

Publisher: Chosen Books

ISBN: 9780800799557

Book Review:

I have not written a book review in a while. Not for my lack of reading, but more so that I have not found many books worth sharing here with you. Until, Discernment by Jane Hamon fell into my lap. Let me start off my staying that if you have a strong desire to grow in discernment, this is the book for you! Have your highlighter ready! This book will bring you into maturity as you digest the Word of God through every page and the testimonies shared within the pages.

When I started reading this book, I had somewhat of an understanding and distinguishing between spirits. This gift is not something that is talked about very much in the Body of Christ. However, when I was reading through each chapter, I gained more confidence through the Holy Spirit and what he had been speaking to me. I no longer felt like I was going crazy, but was brought clarity and confirmation of the things I was discerning.

Discernment by Jane Hamon is a book to equip the saints for such a time as this. As the Body of Christ it is of great importance that we are not only discerning spirits but the times that we are in! Hamon covers a lot of ground throughout this book. She talks about discerning times, angels, demons, and why it is important to grow in discernment for every Child of God.

If you are looking to grow in discernment and have a deeper understanding of the spiritual realm, Discernment by Jane Hamon is for you. Through the scriptures provided and the testimonies she has shared, it will open your eyes and bring confidence through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Overall, I give this book a 5/5 and it will be headed to my ‘favorites’ book shelf. I will be rereading this time and time again as a refresher. This book is a gift of ‘karios’ for the Body of Christ.

What Happens When Women Walk In Faith-Lysa Terkeurst (Book Review)

Book Review:

Relatable and easily applicable are the three words I would use to describe What Happens When Women Walk In Faith. At the end of each chapter there are personal bible studies where she encourages you to dive deeper with God through prayer and his word. These personal bible studies have revolutionized my walk with God. She sheds light on scripture for everyday life and the challenges one endures while walking in Faith. The book is broken up into five phases, leaving, famine, believing, death, and resurrection. I had no idea that there were phases to walk in faith until I read this book. Throughout walking out each stage, What Happens When Women Walk In Faith is a God given guide to embrace the phase you are in. Lysa hits on so many things that we often overlook in our daily life that give us the opportunity to grow closer to God and walk in faith. Throughout this entire book Lysa points back to God’s sovereignty and who he is. You are continually reminded that God will never break a promise and encouraged to continue but with his help.

I love that she shares her life with you in such a vulnerable way. This book is quotable but not in a mundane way. It is quotable in the sense that when you are facing times you have the choice to shrink in fear or stand in faith you are reminded of the word of God and the words Lysa has spoken. This book is memorable but also one you can read over and over again. I love that she uses other people’s wisdom on faith in What Happens When Women Walk In Faith. She not only sought out tools to help herself while writing this book but shares these resources with her audience. I love that there are several tools that we are given.

My recommendation is that you use this book to it’s full capacity. Not only read this book but highlight throughout, take notes, and do the personal bible studies she has provided at the end of each chapter. In a hard season on my life where there were many trials what was inside of the book encouraged, strengthened, and ultimately had me walk in faith and see the promises of God come to pass. One of the quotes that changed my life in this book is,

“God is interested in my character, not my comfort”.

Lysa really helps you not only seek God throughout the book but see him for who he truly is from not only her testimony but the Word of God. All that she speaks points back to who God is.

I love What Happens When Women Walk In Faith by Lysa Terkeurst because it is not only a book but a tool to help you understand what Faith is, how we stand in faith, and where God is in the midst of all this. You will want to grab a highlighter, a notebook, and your bible when you read this book. The personal bible studies are such a wonderful tool and I am so thankful for them. I give What Happens When Women Walk in Faith a 5/5 star for the sheer fact that there is biblical wisdom at the turn of each page that brings you closer to God. This is what I am looking for in a book, one that will change my day to day living.

Its Not Supposed To Be This Way~Lysa TerKeurst (Book Review)

Book Information:

  • Title: It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way-Finding Unexpected Strength When Disappointments Leave You Shattered
  • Author: Lysa TerKeurst
  • Publisher: Thomas Nelson
  • ISBN: 9780718039851
  • Price: $24.99

Book Review

I just adore people who are transparent, vaunerable, and can make you laugh. Lysa TerKeurst check’s all the boxes in her latest novel It’s Not Supposed To Be This Way, Finding Unexpected Strength When Disappointments Leave You Shattered. This is my very first book of Lysa’s that I have read. Her personality shines through her writing. There were moments where I was laughing so hard I was snorting. I feel that as you read this book and I am going to guess, much of her writing, you get to see a glimpse of who she is.

I really enjoyed this book for the sheer fact that she is transparent and vaunerable with those who are reading. She makes it very clear that she wants you to feel she is with you through this and know what it is like to walk through disappointments. She is brutally honest in what she has went through and how this had made her feel, a vaunerbility that is rare but so needed today.

I admired her love for God displayed throughout each page. She reminds those who are reading that it is okay to lay down your cares before the Lord. Her metaphors of dust to clay and scriptures used to display are only something that can be inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The only thing that I had a hard time with was that her style of writing towards the end of the book was very all over the place. but it did however tie all back in very nicely. I cannot help but wonder if that how God intended it to be.

Who would I recommend this to? Those who are struggling with disappointment. I believe this book and the tools that you have been provided with can assist you to grow closer to God and to continue and endure the rest of the journey that lies ahead.

Overall I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The only reason I marked it down a star is because I had to re-read to comprehend part of the book due to the style of writing being all over the place. However, this does not take away from the heart and soul of this book.

Acknowledgments

A huge thank you to you that is reading this review. You make this dream come true possible! I want to thank Lysa for her sheer vulnerability and the good belly laughs that I needed. Last but certainly not least, I want to thank the publisher Thomas Nelson who waited so patiently for this review. Thank you for being a blessing to me with this book and for those who pick it up.

The Root Of Rejection~Joyce Meyer (Book Review)

The Root of Rejection is one of Joyce Meyer’s shorter reads, yet it jammed packed full of spiritual wisdom. Joyce is very precise and to the point with this read-only being 108 pages long. While it is a short read, it took me a rather long time to read. Throughout this book, you will find yourself looking back at the past and connecting the dots of why things are the way they are. This book can be used as a tool to start your journey towards healing and ultimate freedom.

One thing I admire about Joyce is here level of transparency in her books. She is unashamed of her testimony and her faults which help you be authentic about where you are in your walk. The Root of Rejection will help those who take rejection to heart and do not know why. We all deal with rejection in some shape or form. However, some of us like Joyce and myself because of abuse harbored the hurt and rejection personally. Which later began to spew out in our everyday relationships.

Throughout The Root of Rejection, supplemented with prayer and bible study with the Father, I have been brought to a new place of freedom. If I am rejected, Holy Spirit sends me gentle reminders of what I have learned from this book and the scripture Joyce provided to apply to your life.

I ultimately give this book a 4 out of 5. I normally love Joyce’s books! The Root of Rejection was very knowledgeable and full of wisdom. However, it is a very dry and slow read. I DO recommend this book to anyone who takes rejection personally.
