Not Today satan. I Know The Powerful Name of Jesus.

20180531_072356.jpg

We all go through trials and tribulations. We all go through things that shape us to be more like Christ. But, when we are going through it in the moment it doesn’t feel like we are becoming more like Jesus. It feels, let’s be honest, painful. We have all most likely had growing pains growing up. As we grow in our walk with God, there is no difference. There will be pain, trials, and tribulations along the way. Keep reading, it gets better!

I really want to focus on these two verses:

“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—” -2 Corinthians 4:8-9

In other words if we translate it back to the original language it means:

We may be rubbed the wrong way at times, feeling confined but we aren’t held back. We may not know what to do, but we have a way out. We are being chased after to be overtaken but we aren’t lacking anything or left nor forsaken. We are cast down but we are not perishing.

May I just say, I absolutely love this passage of scripture! It is so powerful!!

When we are rubbed the wrong way or feel like we are stuck all we have to do is call upon the name of Jesus and in faith declare his promises.

When we don’t know what to do, we have someone who has torn the veil before us named Jesus.

When the world and the devil himself tries to overtake our minds and hearts, we remember who we are in Christ. We remember we lack nothing because God supplies our every single need because he is a good father that will never leave nor forsake us.

When we are kicked down, we get back up.

See the devil is just mad because he knows the battle is already won. He knows that he has absolutely NO AUTHORITY over us. He can only lie and deceive us into thinking he does. See, the devil likes to keep us unknowledgeable and likes to keep us away from the truth (The Word of God). Here is some biblical truth to back this up. Because this was a lie I once believed (See Romans 6, Luke 10:19, & 22 Other Verses About Man’s Authority Over satan)—–>

Romans 6 NKJV ,Luke 10:19 NKJV,23 Verses About Man’s Authority Over The devil

So the next time you feel defeated remember the same power that raised Christ from the dead, lives inside you. Remember the biblical truth of who you are, not what the world tries to tell you. Remember the verse stated above and remember YOU are MORE than a CONQUEROR through JESUS.

The next time this life tries to bring you down or even if it’s satan himself, let him know about JESUS and where he’s going to end up!

Ya’ll there is so much power just in the name of Jesus. Darkness doesn’t stand a chance! There is so much power inside of us because of Holy Spirit. We just have to have the boldness and knowledge to use it!

Bible Study Notes~1 Corinthians 13 (Love-Be The Example)~April 11th 2018~

God has laid it on my heart to really focus on being the example and to encourage other women through this bible study to be the vessel to bring God glory. Not just hearing the word, but doing the word. Being the light in this dark world. Being guided by Holy Spirit to show love to those who need it most and listen without the intent to reply. REALLY listen and REALLY love.

So with that being said, God lead me in 1 Corinthians 13.
Known as the “Love Chapter”.
This was a hard chapter for everyone including me because Holy Spirit really challenged me. I thought I was really good at loving but I think through this lesson we all learned that we could love a little harder and more like Jesus.

My notes will not be as organized as last weeks (sorry). But there was A LOT of Holy Spirit led discussion.

Read 1 Corinthians 13

We know from reading this chapter that without love we are nothing but a noisy clanging symbol. Even our gifts are useless without love.

During this time I pointed out that God looks at the intention of the heart. I could be doing this bible study without love and for my own benefit and social status instead of doing what God called me to do. You can give to the poor without doing it in love. A pastor can be preaching at a church with the wrong motive. This applies to everyone. It is so important to ask Holy Spirit to reveal things that aren’t of God and cast them out.

We live in a world that doesn’t know how to love because they don’t know God. Anything that we settle for before we had God was a counterfeit love. For me this including approval of others, drugs & alcohol, and men that were never going to be my husband. I was always searching for something only God could give.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”-1 John 4:7-8

Another one of my favorite verse about pure love, is that it covers a multitude of sins.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”-1 Peter 4:8

One more verse about love that will lead us into the next thing I am going to have you do 🙂

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”-1 John 4:18

Before we get into the characteristics of love, I would like you to do two things:

1) Ask Holy Spirit to guide you and reveal to you if you really love. Replace your name in every spot that it says love in 1 Corinthians 13…..

Well…how did it go? For me and many others in our group, we had some things to work on.

2) We know God is love…so replace the word love with God.

Are you believing any lies about God?

Breaking Down The Charactersitics of Love (Taken From KJV)

Love (Agape)- love which in moral prefrence, divine love

Patient (makrothumeo)- refuses to retaliate in anger because of human reasoning. Opposite of quick tempered

Kind (chresteuomai)-to show one useful, act benevotently

NOT envious– (zeloo)- NOT jealous, to bubble over because it is so hot

NOT boastful- (perperuomai)- NOT show off or need much attention

NOT Puffed Up- (phusioo)- arrogant, exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities

NOT acts unbecomingly- (aschemoneo)- not acting in accord with the standards appropriate to one’s postion of life

NOT seek the things of it’s own way

NOT easily provoked– (paroxuno)- become emotionally evoked, to take jabs

NOT keep accounts– (logizomai)- keep track, charge of wrongs

NOT rejoice at unrighteousness– (adikia)- Violation of God’s standards which brings disapproval

Rejoices -(sugchairo)- sharing God’s grace with another person. Celebrate together!

In Truth- (aletheia)- reality, fact

God & Jesus are really the only true examples of pure love. However, we are called to look at Jesus the perfector of our faith and grow to be more like him every single day. We all have things we can work on to love a little harder or deeper. So do not be discouraged!

Have Holy Spirit work on you from the inside out. Start with your heart. Lay everything at his feet today and just be obedient to what he calls you to do.

Next week we will be continuing to focus on being a Christ-Like example and really being a doer of the word and will be reading in Romans. We would love for you to join us!

The Book of Ruth (Chapter 1 Focus)~Bible Study Notes~April 5th 2018

The Book of Ruth Background Information

Timeline:

During the time of the Judges, a period of social and religious disorder when “everyone did whatever seemed right to him” (Judges 17:16)

Era bridged the time between the conquest of the land under Joshua and The Rise of King David (1150 BC-1100 BC)

Facts:

After reading the book of Judges which paints a dark and depressing picture of Israel, Ruth is a welcome relief.

One of the five scrolls read during the Jewish festivals, in particular The Festival of Weeks.

Chapter 1:

(1:1-5)

  • famine in the land of Moab
  • Killed Naomi’s husband and two son’s (one being Ruth’s husband)
  • Famine was also known as a natural disaster or a means of testing to strengthen the faith of the people of God
  • Which in turn was a test of Naomi & Ruth’s heart
  • Moab where they were, not in favor of the Promised Land

(1:6-9)

  • During this time your husband was your voice
  • Whatever was your husband’s if he passed went to the next male or next of kin
  • (1:6)-God is still faithful to his people
  • (1:8)-Naomi tries to send them back home. We see Naomi looking at the best interests of others. She had absolutely nothing to offer Ruth. This showed kindness and humility in Naomi’s heart.
  • (1:9)-Despite emotions running high (weeping out loud) Naomi’s heart was still focused on others

(1:10-14)

  • Naomi tells Ruth and Orpah to flee because she has nothing to offer (Remember your husband was your voice)
  • She also feels like the Lord has turned against her
  • They all weep together

~Have you ever been in a position where you did not understand why?

~Did you continue to trust in God’s promises or look at your circumstances?

  • Ruth clings to Naomi (this shows empathy, sympathy, and kindness)

(1:15-17)

  • Naomi demands them to leave
  • Ruth, however, has a different plan. Ruth says with authority what seemed like wedding vows to her Mother-in-law.
  1. emotions are running high still
  2. “your God will be my God” (just after Naomi spoke of the Lord “turning against her…)

Lets Put Ourselves In Ruth’s Shoes

  1. Husband and father-in law just died in a famine
  2. Your voice in society was your husband (male)
  3. Weeping together with mother-in-law and sister-in-law
  4. Live in the land of the Moabites (not in favor of the Promised Land)
  5. Naomi feels the wrath of God BUT Ruth chooses to lay down her life for her mother-in-law (leaving everything she knows behind, including her beliefs)
  6. Ruth ultimately loses her life to find it

Ruth is…

  • compassionate
  • understanding
  • sympathetic
  • empathetic
  • dedicated
  • heart of a servant
  • sacraficial
  • has an attitude of determination
  • bold and courageous
  • obedient
  • a heroine

Heroine: an ordinary woman doing extraordinary things

(1:18-22)

  • even though Naomi is still distressed we see later on that Ruth’s decision to follow God changed not only her future but her mother-in-law’s and future generations including our own

Ruth is a great great great……grandmother of King David. (See Matthew 1)

Take Away Questions:

  1. Have we ever felt like Naomi, where God’s discipline or test seems to be too much? (See Psalm 30:5)
  2. Are we willing to drop everything to follow the will of God? (Example: Ruth left everything she knew would you stay at Fort Polk or move across the country because God called you to?)
  3. How can we be like Ruth? (She was a heroine, but so are we. She sought out God’s will so should we. Read God’s Word. Be aware of the spiritual war we are in and fight!!)
  4. What are some qualities you admire about Ruth or Naomi?
  5. Are you in complete submission to God?
  6. Did you realize the choices you make now effect future generations?

~Later we will see the Lord’s favor not only upon Ruth, but Naomi and future generations because of the choice Ruth made to be obedient. She followed God’s plan instead of her own.~
